Welcome
Europeans in Kāpiti (EURiK) is already taking shape - a warm, neighbourly community for people from Western, Central, Northern, Mediterranean and Eastern Europe who live in the Kāpiti region. We’re a mix of newcomers and longer‑term residents who enjoy sharing food, music and stories, and who want to build practical friendships and local connections.
Our purpose
Right now we’re focused on cultural sharing, social support, language practice, family activities, arts and learning, and community service. Our aim is to add to Kāpiti’s rich community life - celebrating European traditions while working respectfully alongside Māori and Kiwi neighbours.
What we’re doing and planning
- Pop‑up potlucks and casual meetups - small gatherings that are happening now and will continue to grow.
- Monthly cultural nights - we’re planning a regular series of themed evenings with food, music and short talks.
- Workshops and film nights - cooking classes, history talks and arts sessions are in development.
- Online support - a WhatsApp group and email newsletter keep people connected between events.
Events will be held in English to keep things accessible, with optional mother‑tongue corners for those who want them.
Values and practical details
We’re cheerful, cooperative and family‑friendly. Our membership model will be hybrid - a core active group plus a wider mailing list. Funding will come from voluntary koha at events, an optional small annual membership for extra benefits, and sponsorships. We’re recruiting volunteers for roles such as event organiser and family coordinator.
Practical notes
We will ask for consent before sharing photos and will aim to host events in accessible venues. If you have access needs or want to help organise, please get in touch.
